Classic Comforting PB&J Sandwich

classic comforting PB&J sandwich - featured image

A nostalgic and simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich recipe that balances creamy peanut butter and sweet jelly on soft bread, perfect for a quick snack or school lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons jelly or jam (grape, strawberry, or raspberry)
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter, softened (optional)

Instructions

  1. Choose fresh bread: Take two slices of your preferred sandwich bread and lay them on your cutting board.
  2. Optional butter layer: Spread a thin layer of softened unsalted butter on one side of each slice to prevent sogginess if packing the sandwich ahead.
  3. Spread the peanut butter evenly over one slice, covering all edges without pressing too hard.
  4. Spread the jelly evenly over the other slice, keeping it thin enough to avoid dripping but generous enough for sweetness.
  5. Assemble the sandwich by placing the peanut butter slice on top of the jelly slice, with buttered sides facing out if butter was added. Press gently to stick the layers together.
  6. Cut the sandwich diagonally or down the middle and serve immediately or wrap for later.

Notes

Use creamy peanut butter for easier spreading and to avoid tearing the bread. Spread peanut butter first to act as a moisture barrier and prevent sogginess. Warm stiff peanut butter slightly for easier spreading. Optional butter layer helps keep the sandwich from getting soggy if packed ahead. For nut allergies, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter and use seed-based jelly.
