  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice bagels in half horizontally.
  2. Toast bagels lightly in a toaster or under the oven broiler until golden and slightly crisp on the edges but still soft inside (2-3 minutes).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream (if using), and unsalted butter.
  4. Beat the mixture with a hand mixer or whisk on medium speed until smooth and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  5. Stir in grated Parmesan, garlic powder, lemon zest, chopped chives, salt, and pepper gently to combine.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed; add a pinch of sugar if too tangy or more garlic powder/Parmesan if too mild.
  7. Spread about 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter on each warm toasted bagel half.
  8. Generously spread approximately 2 tablespoons of the cheese spread on each buttered bagel half.
  9. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
