  • Optional: pinch of garlic powder or smoked paprika to mix into the butter

Instructions

  1. Prep the Bread and Butter (5 minutes): Mix softened butter with optional garlic powder or smoked paprika. Spread an even layer of butter on one side of each bread slice, covering edge to edge.
  2. Add the Cheese (2 minutes): Place bread slices butter-side down on a clean surface. Layer cheese evenly on one slice, then top with the other slice, butter-side up.
  3. Heat the Pan (2 minutes): Warm a non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium-low heat.
  4. Cook the Sandwich (6-8 minutes): Place sandwich in pan. Cook gently for 3-4 minutes until bottom is golden and crispy. Lower heat if browning too fast.
  5. Flip Carefully (1 minute): Flip sandwich using a spatula, press gently, and cook another 3-4 minutes until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  6. Check for Perfect Melt (1 minute): If cheese isn’t fully melted, lower heat and cover pan briefly to finish melting without burning crust.
  7. Serve Immediately: Transfer to plate, let rest for a minute, then slice diagonally and serve.

Notes

Cook over medium-low heat to avoid burning. Butter both sides of the bread for a crispy crust. Use a spatula to press gently when flipping. Cover pan briefly if cheese isn’t melting fully. Avoid microwaving leftovers to keep crust crispy.
