easy buttered toast with sweet jam - featured image

A quick and simple toddler-friendly snack featuring lightly toasted bread spread with softened butter and sweet jam, perfect for busy mornings or snack time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 slice soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon sweet jam or preserve (strawberry, raspberry, or apricot preferred)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon cream cheese (to blend with butter)
  • Optional: drizzle of honey (for children over 1 year)
  • Optional: thin slices of banana or soft strawberry

Instructions

  1. Toast one slice of bread on a light setting until warm and slightly golden, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Ensure butter is softened; if hard, microwave for 5-10 seconds. If using cream cheese, mix it into the butter until smooth.
  3. Gently spread a thin, even layer of butter over the warm toast using a butter knife.
  4. Spoon about one tablespoon of sweet jam onto the toast and spread gently, leaving a small border.
  5. If desired, add thin slices of soft fruit like banana or strawberry on top of the jam.
  6. Serve immediately on a toddler-friendly plate. For later serving, wrap loosely in parchment paper to prevent sogginess.

Notes

Toast bread lightly to keep it soft and toddler-friendly. Use softened butter for easy spreading. Choose jams with natural fruit bits and minimal added sugars. For toddlers learning to self-feed, cut toast into small shapes. Reheat briefly if butter hardens. Avoid honey for babies under 12 months.
