Easy Caprese Skewers Recipe - featured image

A fresh, vibrant Italian appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves threaded on skewers with a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Quick and easy to assemble, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • About 20 cherry tomatoes
  • About 20 fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • About 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Balsamic glaze for drizzling
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves gently under cold water. Pat dry with a kitchen towel. Drain the fresh mozzarella balls well to avoid sogginess.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper. Toss gently to coat evenly.
  3. Take one skewer and start by threading a cherry tomato, followed by a fresh basil leaf (fold it if it’s large), then a mozzarella ball. Repeat this sequence until the skewer is full (usually 3-4 sets per skewer works well).
  4. Lay the finished skewers neatly on your serving platter. Drizzle balsamic glaze over the top just before serving. Optionally, add a tiny sprinkle of freshly cracked black pepper on top.
  5. For extra flair, sprinkle some flaky sea salt or chopped fresh oregano over the skewers. Serve immediately or chill for up to an hour before guests arrive.

Notes

Use small, firm cherry tomatoes for best flavor and texture. Drain mozzarella well to avoid sogginess. Assemble skewers close to serving time to keep basil fresh. If balsamic glaze is too sweet, mix with a little lemon juice for tanginess. Toothpicks can be used as a substitute for skewers for smaller servings.
