A quick and simple one-pan recipe featuring fresh green beans sautéed in garlic and butter, perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse about 1 pound (450 grams) of fresh green beans under cold water. Trim the ends by snapping or cutting off the tips.
  2. Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter and let it melt completely, swirling the pan occasionally.
  3. Toss in 3 large minced garlic cloves. Stir continuously for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant and just starting to turn golden.
  4. Immediately add the trimmed green beans to the pan. Use tongs or a spatula to toss them in the buttery garlic mixture, coating them evenly. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring every 1-2 minutes until tender but still crisp.
  5. Sprinkle ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if using. Toss again to combine.
  6. Remove the pan from heat and drizzle 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice over the beans. Stir quickly to mix.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Serve immediately warm from the pan.

Notes

Avoid burning the garlic by keeping heat medium and stirring constantly. If beans are too firm, cover pan briefly to steam gently. Fresh garlic is preferred over pre-minced or garlic powder for best flavor. Butter can be swapped with olive oil or coconut oil for dairy-free or vegan options.
