Quick and easy caramel apple slices topped with leftover Halloween candy. A fun, crowd-pleasing treat that comes together in under 20 minutes with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
  • 1 bag (11 ounces) soft caramels (Kraft or Werther’s)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or whole milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 1.5 cups assorted Halloween candy (chopped chocolate bars, crushed Oreos, M&Ms, candy corn, etc.)
  • Optional: sea salt flakes

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Core and slice each apple into 6-8 wedges about ½ inch thick. Toss slices in lemon juice and water, then pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Chop Halloween candy into small pieces (¼-inch chunks for chocolate bars, leave M&Ms whole, crush Oreos in a bag). Set aside.
  3. Unwrap caramels and place in a small saucepan with heavy cream. Heat over medium-low, stirring constantly, until completely melted and smooth (5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Alternatively, microwave caramels and cream in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth (2-3 minutes total).
  4. Insert a wooden skewer or popsicle stick into the cut side of each apple slice. Dip slice into warm caramel, turning to coat all sides. Let excess drip off, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining slices, working quickly.
  5. While caramel is still wet, sprinkle chopped candy over each slice. Press gently to adhere. Add a pinch of sea salt if desired.
  6. Refrigerate baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until caramel is firm. Serve immediately or store as directed.

Notes

Dry apples completely to prevent caramel from sliding off. Work in batches to keep caramel from thickening. For best texture, use firm apples like Granny Smith. Store in refrigerator for up to 3 days; best within 1-2 days. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
