Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 beef or pork hot dogs (Nathan’s Famous recommended)
  • 10 soft hot dog buns (brioche or classic white preferred)
  • 2 large bell peppers (1 red, 1 yellow), sliced into thin strips
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Classic yellow mustard
  • Spicy brown mustard
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise (optional)
  • Sliced dill pickles or bread and butter pickles
  • Sliced jalapeños (fresh or pickled)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced bell peppers, yellow onion, and halved cherry tomatoes with 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Spread the seasoned veggies in a single layer on one side of a large rimmed sheet pan.
  4. Arrange the 10 hot dogs on the other side of the sheet pan with space between them.
  5. Roast in the oven for 15 minutes, then flip the hot dogs and gently stir the veggies.
  6. Continue roasting for another 10-15 minutes until hot dogs are browned and veggies are softened and caramelized.
  7. During the last 5 minutes, wrap the buns in foil and warm them in the oven (optional).
  8. Set out bowls of mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, pickles, jalapeños, shredded cheddar, and parsley for toppings.
  9. Remove the sheet pan from the oven and arrange hot dogs on a serving platter or serve family-style on the pan.
  10. Let guests customize their hot dogs with desired toppings and enjoy.

Notes

If onions or peppers cook faster than hot dogs, remove veggies earlier and let hot dogs finish roasting. Warm buns wrapped in foil to keep soft but avoid sogginess. Use a silicone baking mat for easier cleanup. Customize toppings to suit dietary needs or preferences.
