A simple, juicy, and refreshing summer treat made from perfectly sliced fresh watermelon. Ready in under 10 minutes, this recipe is perfect for hot afternoons and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 fresh ripe seedless watermelon
  • Optional: flaky sea salt
  • Optional: fresh lime juice
  • Optional: fresh mint leaves
  • Optional: chili powder

Instructions

  1. Wash the watermelon under cold water and pat dry. (2 minutes)
  2. Cut off about ½ inch (1.25 cm) from both the stem and blossom ends to create flat surfaces. (2 minutes)
  3. Stand the watermelon upright on one flat end and cut down the middle to create two halves. (1-2 minutes)
  4. Lay each half flat and cut lengthwise into quarters. (2-3 minutes)
  5. Remove the rind by slicing between the red flesh and green rind, following the curve. (5 minutes)
  6. Lay the rind-free quarters flat and slice into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick slices. (3-5 minutes)
  7. Optionally sprinkle with flaky sea salt or squeeze fresh lime juice and toss gently. (1 minute)
  8. Place slices on a chilled platter or bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Choose a ripe watermelon with a creamy yellow spot and hollow sound when tapped. Keep knives sharp for clean cuts. Chill slices before serving for best refreshment. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Avoid freezing whole slices as texture becomes mushy.
